Nova Multimedia: changing the face of Canberra
From its inception back in 1988 Canberra’s Nova Multimedia was never going to be “just another audio company”. In fact Nova Multimedia commenced as primarily a lighting company that also supplied audio, but during the companies long history, the audio department moved front and centre.
Once it was just about lights and sound. Now it’s multi-media.
Today Nova Multimedia covers everything from high quality audio and lighting, to vision and event management to the corporate, entertainment, and touring sectors. This is a quite a task in a market where the clientele vary so much in frequency, resources and needs. Canberra is different to what would normally be considered a regional city market. It has all the specialist customer needs of a large city but not enough large-scale volume to support any specialist production area. As a result, a production company must be expert at everything and have command of the resources to pull it off. Anything from government conferences and live corporate theatre, touring rock bands who drop in for a one off concert, to disco installations in the local nightclub.
Today the guests are relaxed shipping Champagne, tonight they will be at another Nova gig sipping Bourbon and Coke at 120dB.
Lighting is still a high priority with all the latest computer controlled toys
As if the bar wasn’t high enough in Canberra, Nova Multimedia has lifted it another few feet with the purchase of a DiGiCo D1-Live digital mixer and 16 elements of Nexo Geo-T. The speakers are flown with the aid of Verlinde Stagemaker motors including RF control. Now there’s a combination; the most high-tech user-friendly live digital desk running the most advanced (and high SPL) compact speaker system flown by wireless controlled motors.
The DiGiCo D1-Live list of features and benefits is long and fat. To achieve the same standard of performance in the analogue domain would be big, complex and expensive and literally weigh a ton!
A gig like this would be 1/10th of the new PA’s capacity.
The system has already been a hit among the first happy Nova clients. Peter Funnel, (Peter Funnel Entertainment) commented after the HIA Awards show recently, “Getting the sound right at the Australian Institute of Sport Arena in Canberra is verging on mission impossible. I remember admiring the small size of the speakers and the quality of sound produced at the HIA Awards. They certainly hit the target that night right in the bullseye. Clarity was perfect, volume perfect.”
The Nexo Geo-T: 148dB @ 1 metre never sounded so good!
This level of customer satisfaction is what the new production market is all about. The most modern gear used by companies that have a reservoir of experience and intellectual capital, and in Canberra, the production capital is with Nova Multimedia.
…and the winner is…… Nova Multimedia….or is that…Multimedia’s clients!
