Hunter Doubles Alpha-e Inventory
Newcastle’s Hunter Sound and Lighting, the largest Sound and Lighting Production Company in Newcastle and the NSW Central Coast, has just doubled its existing Nexo Alpha-e stock from 24 to 48 boxes. This gives Hunter the largest inventory of Alpha-e in NSW. Impressed with his company’s original purchase of 24 boxes three years ago, after a five year search to replace its aging Martin and Turbosound speakers, Lindsay Hall (CEO) has this to say, “Nexo gives us the perfect solution for the services Hunter provides, supplying us with excellent value for money, ease of assembly, awesome reliability and exceptional customer support”.
Hunter Sound and Lighting (HSL) has been in the industry for 25 years and Lindsay Hall bought the business ten years ago. HSL is a sound and lighting production company servicing Newcastle, Central Coast and Sydney, with a sales division for schools and installations. HSL is the only production company with current technology between Newcastle and Brisbane. It is the oldest such company in Newcastle and employs four full-time staff and up to twelve casuals during peak times. Incidentally Lindsay is also manager of 25 years to Australian icon Jon English.
With the company currently in expansion-mode, Lindsay has appointed his son James as manager of the business, looking after day-to-day operations. Completing a traineeship with Hunter and holding certificates III and IV in audio engineering, James is well prepared for the job. In January HSL moved out of its old digs to a larger warehouse premises in Adamstown, to assist with the expansion plan and house the company’s vehicle fleet, including four trucks and a soon-to-be finished recording studio.
The decision to go with Nexo Alpha-e and Nexo PS15 was made three years ago after an exhaustive five-year search for a replacement to existing Martin Turbosound equipment, and since deciding on Nexo, Lindsay could not be more pleased with his choice. “I’ve had Nexo for three years and we’ve never blown a speaker component. They have provided me with excellent value for money, as I don’t need as many boxes as any of the other to get better results, therefore saving me valuable truck-space and weight. The benefits absolutely outweigh the initial upfront investment.”
As noted, Hunter have chosen to complement its Alpha-e system with Nexo PS15, generally used as monitors for the Alpha systems, the PS15s are also hired out as smaller FOH systems depending on the application required. As HSL do a lot of winery work in Port Macquarie and provide equipment to numerous corporate functions and events, the company relies on having the latest, hi-tech (Nexo) gear for such jobs.
HSL have an impressive list of production credits, including Savage Garden, Lee Kernighan and Tom Jones, to name but a few and the Nexo systems always receive fabulous reactions, “Once these guys use our Nexo gear, they don’t want to use anything else”, says Lindsay.
When quizzed about the latest Nexo acquisition, Lindsay told how his confidence in the product was strengthened (even more so), when on the day of delivery, “HSL had a 5000 people outdoor festival in Gloucester, with Screaming Jets, Killing Heidi and Evermore being the featured acts. The system rolled up ready for rigging, helped by Nexo Australia’s distributor Group Technologies”, says Lindsay. “It was set up, plugged in, and (the system) worked flawlessly, with no effort required by us - this is what I love about Nexo”.
